Virginia Intermont College
offers both
B.S. and B.A. degrees in Criminal Justice, as well as a minor.
The minor can be taken in conjunction with any degree, but it is
particularly well suited for Social Work majors who are
interested in working in criminal justice agencies such as the
juvenile justice system and community corrections.
Our program provides a broad theoretical background to the field
of Criminal Justice with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary
nature of Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, and Social
Work. Graduates will be able to perform in a variety of agencies
including local, state, and federal law enforcement, as well as
prison counselors, probation officers, and other positions in
community corrections. Graduates who do not go directly into the
Criminal Justice field will have the foundation to pursue
graduate work in Criminal Justice.
Internships are available at a variety of locations in the
Virginia Intermont service area and are an integral part of the
curriculum design.
Professors have a combination of both academic and field
experiences that bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Classes are small and encourage interaction between the
professors and students.
The college is proud to have a chapter of the American Criminal
Justice Association (Lambda Alpha Epsilon) which provides
students with opportunities for leadership and interaction with
students and professionals on regional and national levels.
