Summer Program 2005

International Business in London, England

 

Between June 18 and July 16, 2005, students can earn 9 hours of college credit in International Business by participating in this exciting four-week foreign study program in London under the direction of Professor Ed Moura of the Department of Business at Virginia Intermont College.  Courses will be taught by Professor Moura and British professors having both academic and international business experience.    In addition to course work, a wide range of field trips, tours and presentations at British multinational corporations, banks, trade associations, and government agencies involved with foreign trade development will be included as an International Business field component of this program.  The courses being offered are:

 

  • Business 328     – International Management
  • Business 330     – International Marketing
  • Humanities 100  – Culture and Language for Business Professionals (UK emphasis)

 

These courses are listed in the Virginia Intermont College catalogue.  Grades and credit will be transferred to the participating students’ college of origin.

 

The program will be offered at Regent’s College, Regent’s Park, London.  Students will live in the college’s dormitory with other international students from Europe, Latin America, and Asia, as well as other American students.  Meals in the college dining hall are included in the fee, as are a full range of student services and medical services.  A complete staff of professionals trained in working with international students is available to attend to any student need.

 

The total cost of the program is $4,726 for VI students and $4,976.00 for non-VI students.  Specific cost breakdowns are:

 

  • Tuition for 9 credit hours (3 courses) for VI students is $1,200.00, and $1,450.00 for non-VI students
  • Approximate cost of books is $300.00
  • The cost of the trip is $3,226.00, which includes:

 

    • Round trip air departing from the U.S.  Students will need to make arrangements to meet at the airport 4 hours prior to departure.
    • Transfers from Gatwick or Heathrow to and from the College
    • London TravelCard for unlimited bus and tube travel in Greater London for four weeks
    • Course-related Business Tours and Presentations
    • Room and two meals per day at Regent’s College
    • Availability of all student support services at Regent’s College

 

Participating students must be in good standing at their college of origin and have a GPA of 2.5 / 4.0 or better.

 

NOTE:  Participating American students must have a valid U.S. Passport.  Foreign students must have a valid passport from their country of origin and the appropriate U.S. Department of Naturalization and Immigration approval to participate in this program.

 

In addition to the classroom and field study components of this program, students will have ample time to experience the culture and history of London and England through daytrips and weekend excursions.  London is one of the most exciting cities of the world, providing a wide range of opportunities for students to explore art and history museums, galleries, castles, libraries, world-class theatre and entertainment.  Though the program is academically structured, there is free-time built in for your students to explore one of the exciting and cosmopolitan cities in the world.   This is an exceptional opportunity for students to experience the world in a very manageable foreign country and take their first steps to becoming a “citizen of the world” with Virginia Intermont College in London.
