The preparation of teachers is an important offering at Virginia Intermont College. The teacher education program is planned and supervised by faculty members from all academic areas offering teacher licensure. Both faculty and administrators are well aware of the program’s importance and work consistently to maintain quality in the curriculum and in the instruction of prospective teachers.

The curriculum is designed to help students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to be used in public school teaching. Through this program they receive instruction in, and are provided experience with, the most effective and the most current methods and materials in their respective fields.

In compliance with the Title II Higher Education Act of 1998, Virginia Intermont College reported test data from Praxis I and II for the Academic Year of 2002-2003.  This data will be compiled with data from other institutions of higher education and the Commonwealth of Virginia will submit a state report to the U.S. Department of Education.

As the test data indicate, 16 program completers took Praxis I and Praxis II for the 2002-2003 academic year.  Of these completers, 100% passed all of the tests.

A copy of the complete report, submitted to the Commonwealth of Virginia on April 7, 2004, is available for viewing in the J.F. Hicks Library on permanent reserve or from the Director of Teacher Education upon request.
