Before opening Silver Lake Farm
in Kingsport, TN, Eddie rode for Hunter Hill Farm in Atlanta,
GA. He joined the faculty of Virginia Intermont College in 1994,
and became Equine Studies program director in 1995. Since that
time, Eddie has worked to make the Equine program well-rounded
and career-centered rather than competition-based. That is not
to say that competition has suffered; in fact, for the last two
years, Intermont's Intercollegiate Riding Team has been
nationally ranked. Eddie is an AHSA recorded Hunter and Hunter Seat Equitation judge.
In addition to her responsibilities as an Instructor
and Academic Coordinator of the Equine Studies Program at Intermont,
Patty recently completed a doctoral program at Virginia Tech.
She holds Bachelor's Degrees in Biology and Animal Science from
the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a Master's Degree
in Equine Nutrition from the University of Florida and a Doctorate
Degree from Virginia Tech. Her previous experience
includes riding with Janet Gillespie at Brass Head Farm in Winchedon,
MA, and traveling extensively as a sales representative for
Manna Pro Feeds.
A native of Long Island, N.Y.,
Lisa has been riding since she was five
years old. In her youth, she competed in equitation and jumpers,
and
eventually focused primarily on jumpers. Later, Lisa exercised
racehorses
at several farms on Long Island and at Belmont racetrack while
continuing
to compete in jumpers. Lisa then attended Virginia Intermont,
where she
competed on the IHSA team and continued to work with racehorses
back home
during the summers. She also gave lessons and worked as a show
groom for
River Circle Farm, which developed horses for Olympians Joe Fargis
and
Conrad Homfeld's Sandron Farm on Long Island. Lisa graduated with
an equine
studies degree from VI, and went on to work for a dressage barn,
also
trained with Karen and David O'Connor and Jimmy Wofford. Since
returning to
VI as an instructor, Lisa has completed the development of the
dressage and
combined training programs at the college, and was instrumental
in
developing the Equine-Assisted Growth and Development minor. Lisa
is an
ARIA Level III certified instructor in hunt seat and dressage,
a Level I
EAGAD instructor, vice president of the IDA and Intermont's dressage
and
eventing coach.
For 13 years Margaret has been
the mainstay of Intermont's Equine Studies program. With ten years
of experience working in the Office of the Secretary of Defense
at the Pentagon, she excels in her current position of Office
Manager. She maintains all financial, medical, and maintenance
records, purchases supplies, communicates with prospective students,
assists the Intercollegiate Riding Team, and sees to other needs
of the Equine Studies Program.
McCloud, Heather,
Instructor of Equine Studies
Originally from outside New
Orleans, Heather competed extensively, as a junior in both
Hunter and Jumper ring ending her junior career by qualifying
for and competing in the 1996 Prix des States for Zone 7.
She rode with and trained under Lyn Owens and Jimmy Cantwell
before attending Virginia Intermont earning a BA in Equine
Studies. After graduating Heather moved to Atlanta area to
work for Kat Mulkey teaching lessons, bringing clients to
horseshows and breaking and training show hunters (her favorite
part). While there Heather rode with Ann Kenan of
Hunter Hill farm. Since returning to VI as an instructor
Heather has tried to bring her experience in the industry to the
students as an aid in preparing them for their professional
careers.
Sue Glover, Instructor of Equine Studies
A 1995 graduate of the
Horsemanship program at Virginia Intermont, Sue has been riding
horses all her life. She has 15 years of experience showing
hunters, jumpers and equitation at A-rated show. She is a CHA
Certified Instructor, was a 4-H member and Junior leader for
five years, and has served on the Board of Directors for the
Tri-Cities Hunter/Jumper Association and the East Tennessee
Hunter/Jumper Association. Additionally, Sue has served as show
manager for the Southwest Virginia Hunter/Jumper Association.
Before joining the faculty at Intermont, Sue was an instructor
and manager at Webb Valley Farm in Unicoi, Tenn., barn manager
at Cozart Farm in Abingdon, Va., and worked at Blue Spring Farm
in Abingdon, Va. In addition to her instructor responsibilities
at Intermont, Sue also coaches the college's ANRC National
Collegiate Riding team.
