The Interscholastic-Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) is a national organization that is divided into regions for the purpose of intercollegiate and interscholastic competition. At each show, individual and team points are earned which count toward regional standings and qualification for national finals. Collegiate and scholastic rider points are totaled in separate categories. Virginia Intermont College participates in the Southeast Region along with Appalachian State University, Averett University, Elon University, North Carolina State University, St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Wake Forest University.

The mission of IDA is to introduce students to the equestrian discipline of dressage and to foster continued development, understanding and appreciation in the art of dressage through organized student competitions and educational opportunities.
