DEAN OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
Virginia Intermont College is seeking a dynamic, experienced student development professional for the position of Dean of Student Development. The Dean of Student Development reports to the President, serves as a member of the college’s leadership team and provides management and leadership for the student affairs areas, which include residence life, athletics, student health services, career counseling, student activities, multicultural affairs, and campus security. The Dean of Student Development will work collaboratively with other campus units to provide students with the tools necessary to fully engage them in the college experience.

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in higher education administration or related area; four to six years of progressively responsible experience in student development administration; a successful record of management, budgeting, planning and developing residence life programs; an understanding of Student Development theory; a successful record in developing community; and the ability to effectively manage multiple programs. This position supervises a staff of approximately 35 full-time and part-time employees.

Vice President for Advancement

Virginia Intermont College is accepting applications for the position of Vice President for Advancement.  The Vice President for Advancement performs a highly visible and significant role serving as the senior development officer and strategist to provide overall leadership of Virginia Intermont College’s efforts to mobilize private and public resources in support of the college’s mission.  This position reports to the college president and coordinates with the college’s Advancement Committee and will assume the following primary responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all functions for college development, including annual fund, major giving, planned giving, alumni relations, community relations, special events and church relations.
  • Provide vision and leadership to implement a comprehensive, integrated organizational advancement program with accountability for the successful operation of the development, communications, and grant funding activities.
  • Manage a portfolio of major individual, corporate and foundation gift prospects and donors.
  • Establish realistic fund raising goals through the budgeting process in collaboration with the Vice President for Financial Affairs, President and Advancement Committee.
  • Interact with members of the Board of Trustees as a staff representative in applicable Board standing committees.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major six and seven figure gifts from individuals and organizations for annual, capital, and endowment needs of the college.
  • Provide leadership in the college’s fundraising efforts through community partnerships that support the institution’s vision.
  • Serve as a member of the president’s cabinet providing leadership and strategic direction of the development office and its policies. 
  • Assist the president and other cabinet members in long and short-range planning efforts through the college’s strategic plan.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following set of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Five to seven years of successful fundraising experience with broad exposure and expertise in all key elements of fundraising including major capital and endowment campaigns, preferably in higher education.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; well versed in negotiating and closing significant gifts.
  • Knowledge of and experience with alumni annual giving programs
  • Successful experience in managing and motivating a small staff of highly qualified individuals.
  • Experience in working directly with volunteer boards.
  • Financial expertise and experience in effectively managing a departmental budget.
  • Understanding that versatility is required of a small staff with willingness to participate in non-development tasks.
  • Significant weekday travel, varied hours and occasional weekend travel are necessary.
  • Planned giving strategies.
  • The ability to work effectively with all college constituents, including the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and administrators is vital.
  • A high level of integrity and a clear commitment and loyalty to the vision and mission of Virginia Intermont College.
  • Master’s degree preferred; bachelor’s required.

Advancement Office Manager
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a professional environment with successful office management experience. He/She will have an ability to work with sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills and will be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint. The ideal candidate will embrace the mission and goals of VIC.

Primary Functions:
• Facilitate outgoing/incoming communication within the Advancement Office.
• Assistant to Director of the Annual Fund, Director of Alumni, Parent and Church Relations and Vice President for Advancement with a variety of ongoing and special projects.
• Work independently and with internal groups coordinating special events on campus.
• Manage Advancement Office work study team.
• Coordinate campus venues for internal and external constituents.
• Support the Assistant Director of Advancement Services with daily gift recording.
• Provide administrative support to the Vice President for Advancement.

The Advancement Office Manager will be working with the Office of The President and the Advancement Office as a RSVP contact for numerous events on and off campus. He/She will need to have exceptional organization skills to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

Reporting:
The Advancement Office Manager will report to the Vice President for Advancement.

Security Officer
Part time / Security officers provide personal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within an assigned area of the college campus. Provides escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned area. Responds to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.

• High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of directly related experience.
• Possession of a valid driver's license is a requirement for this job.
• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects, standing and/or walking for extended periods of times during rush and busy hours of the semester.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
• The ideal candidate will have previous security, law enforcement or military experience.
• Background checks, fingerprint checks and drug testing will be conducted.

Assistant Volleyball Coach
Virginia Intermont College seeks qualified candidates for the position of assistant coach for women's volleyball (Part- Time) starting in July 2008. Responsibilities include assisting with coordinating practices, recruiting, handling student-athletes in the sport of volleyball and performing administrative duties as well as other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Candidates should have a strong undergraduate academic record, intercollegiate volleyball experience and advanced skill and/or teaching/coaching experience. Bachelor's degree preferred with one to two years of related experience.

Faculty Positions

Assistant Professor/Technical Director
Department of Performing Arts.
This is a 9-month position to begin August 2008. Responsibilities include all scenic, lighting, and sound elements of all theatre department productions (3-4 per academic year); lighting, sound, and facilities operations for the main campus auditorium; training student light and sound board operators; organization and maintenance of scene shop, production storage areas, and equipment; supervising student shop assistants and production crews; teaching two courses per semester in technical theatre and/or areas of expertise and conducting student labs. Special topics classes and design opportunities may be available. M.F.A. in Technical Direction or Theatre Technology required.
