Virginia Intermont accredited? A. Yes, Virginia Intermont is accredited
by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) to
award the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor
of Social Work, and the Associate of Arts degrees.
Q. What does
Intermont mean? A. Intermont means “among the mountains.”
Q.
What is Bristol like? A. Bristol is part of the Tri-Cities region with
an area population of approximately 500,000. Four distinct seasons are enjoyed
in the city with temperatures ranging from a low of about 20 degrees in January
to a high of about 90 degrees in August. Bristol offers an abundance of natural
beauty, cultural opportunities, historic sites and recreational activities.

Does VIC offer campus tours? A. The Admissions Staff is more than happy
to give prospective students and their families tours of Virginia Intermont College.

Q.
How do you get to Virginia Intermont? A. From I-81 to Exit 3. Take
Exit 3 to Route 381, Take 381S for 1.6 miles to left lane at large intersection
of Commonwealth and Euclid turn left onto Euclid Ave. Stay on Euclid, go past
Virginia Middle School to Chester Street turn right onto Chester Street and
VIC is straight ahead.
Q. What does Intermont look for in prospective
students? A. Intermont wants students who are eager to become involved
and make a difference. Students should be responsible citizens and appreciate
the diversity that our College of specialty programs has to offer.

Where are most Virginia Intermont students from? A. The majority of
Virginia Intermont students are from Virginia and Tennessee. However, 37 states
and 28 countries are represented.
Q.
What is the student/faculty ratio?
A. The student/faculty ratio is 12:1.
Q. What is the policy on religious expression? A.
Virginia Intermont is affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia.
However, we encourage freedom of religion.
Q. What are VIC’s estimated
costs? A. The rates for full-time students (those taking from 12 through
18 hours per semester) are: -Residential Status Each Semester Annual On-campus
students $13,847.50/semester or $27,695/year (Tuition, room and board and a 21/week meal plan included) -Off-campus students $10,600/semester $21,200/year Additional costs for books, personal
expenses and travel should be budgeted.
Q. Does VIC offer financial
aid and merit scholarships? What percentage of students receive financial aid?
A. Over 85% of Virginia Intermont students receive financial
aid through scholarships, awards and grants, loans or work-study
programs. The College also offers over 100 private scholarships.
In order to receive an academic scholarship, freshman and transfers
much have at least a 3.0 GPA. There are grade maintenance
requirements for each scholarship. Performance scholarships
are available with Equine, Art, Dance, Theatre and Photography.
Q.
What is FASFA? A. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid must
be filled out using your prior year taxes information to receive any federal aid for school. All students
are encouraged to apply.
Q. What payment plans do Virginia Intermont offer?
A. Virginia Intermont has a deferred payment plan that offers
four pays per semester. Forms are located at

Q. I have a copy of my high school transcript. Can I mail
a copy of the Virginia Intermont admissions office? A. No, official
transcripts must be mailed to the admissions office from the high school.
Q.
I have a copy of my SAT/ACT scores. Can I mail a copy to the Virginia Intermont
admissions office? A. No, official scores must come from the testing
center - or they will be considered official if they are posted on the high school
transcripts and mailed to the admissions office.
Q.
What if I have a disability? A. Student Support Services can accommodate
students with disabilities as long as they provide documentation from a doctor.
Q. What about campus safety?
A. The goal of the VIC Security Department is to ensure the most
safe and secure campus environment possible. The security officers
are charged with enforcing College policies as well as local, state
and federal regulations. Security can be reached by calling (276)
466-7950 or (423) 335-7998. The security staff patrols the campus
and parking lots on a regular basis and will provide escort services
for students, faculty and staff members upon request. Additionally,
each residence hall is supervised by resident assistants and a professional
hall director.
Q. What intercollegiate
sports are offered at Virginia Intermont? A. Virginia Intermont presently
fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, women’s
softball and men’s baseball, equestrian teams, women's
volleyball, and men’s
golf. The athletic programs are affiliated with the national association of inter-collegiate
athletics (NAIA) and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Other affiliations
include: Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), Intercollegiate Dressage
Association (IDA), and International Intercollegiate Equestrian Association (IIEA).
Q. What kind of extracurricular activities does the College offer?
A. The number and range of activities assure something of interest
to all students. There are dances, picnics, special weekends and events, concerts,
receptions, tours, intramural events, clubs and organizations and much more. Check

Q. Does VIC offer opportunities
to study abroad? A. Virginia Intermont College is dedicated in providing
students with the most opportunities possible. The Worrell Honors Program offers
students the chance to study abroad. A maximum of 10 class hours are available
for summer overseas trips. Admission into the Worrell Honors Program is competitive
and limited to students with a 3.0 or better G.P.A. Substantial financial aid
based both on academic performance and need is also available. Individual departments
sometimes sponsor study abroad opportunities during May term.
Q.
What are the furnishings in the residence hall rooms? A. Residence
hall rooms usually consist of two beds, two closets, two chest of drawers, a sink, and two desks - some
rooms have adjoining baths.
Q. Do students need to bring a computer
to Virginia Intermont? A. All residence rooms are Internet accessible;
however, a computer is required only for Photography Majors, but recommended for
all other majors. VI’s campus is equipped with four computer
labs (both PC and Mac) for student use.
Q. Can I have a single
room? A. Yes, single rooms are available for an extra fee. However,
most freshman are strongly encouraged to have a roommate. Also, single rooms are
extremely limited and are only offered on a seniority basis.
Q. Can
students have cars at VIC? Is it necessary to have a car? A. All students
are allowed to have cars, but cars are not a necessity. Many students do not have
cars.
Q. Are students required to be insured? A. All
students are required to have medical insurance at Virginia Intermont College.
Students must show proof of insurance by bringing a front and back copy of
their insurance card to the Health Services office. Students who fail to
show proof of insurance will automatically be enrolled in the school's
insurance plan and a fee of $435 will be added to their tuition fees.
All students who do not wish to be enrolled in the student plan must sign a
waiver card as well as show proof of insurance prior to admittance to the
college.
Q. What are the residential requirements? A. Virginia
Intermont College believes that the experience of residence hall living is a valuable
part of a college experience. Therefore, students with fewer than 56 credit hours
(junior status)
will be required to live in the residence halls unless they are married, live
with a parent or guardian within commuting distance of the College or are taking
12 or fewer hours. Students over 21 years may also live off-campus. Seniors (88
hours) also have the option to live in senior housing and have a single room without
extra charge provided they have lived on VI's Campus for 4 consecutive semesters
and the required 88 hours are obtained before the first day of classes.
Q. When do students need to declare a major? A.
It is best to declare a major as soon as possible in order to complete all degree
requirements.
Q. Is it difficult to have two majors or a major
and a minor? A. Having a double major is challenging, yet very possible
to complete in four years. Students interested in double majoring will need to
take full class loads and consider May term and summer term. A minor is much easier
to schedule and complete in four years.
Q. Is there time to work
part-time? A. Yes. Many students have a part-time job while attending
VIC. There are many jobs available on Intermont’s campus. Those interested in
working on campus should talk to someone in the Financial Aid Office and discuss
opportunities.
Q. How are students prepared for a job after graduation?
A. VI’s Career Development Office is designed to serve students and
alumni by putting them in touch with prospective employers, compiling credentials
files and conducting workshops on resume writing and interviewing techniques.
Alumni are also points of contact.
