Program Benefits
Educational Advantages
Honors classes include only Virginia Intermont College's strongest
students. Prospective Honors students can expect to be challenged
and inspired by their fellow classmates to excel academically.
Honors students also enjoy a small student to instructor ratio,
typically classes range between ten and fifteen students.
Trips
The honors program offers trips for educational,
cultural and social purposes. These trips include visits to regional
sites as well as at least one trip to a distant city. In the future,
the Honors program hopes to take a trip abroad. All trips are
offered on a voluntary basis.
Honors Center
The suite of rooms that comprise the Honors Center give students
their own place to study, read, have discussions, use computers,
as well as spend social time toghther. The Honors Center is located
in the Humanities building and includes a seminar/classroom, computer
lab, study area, Honors faculty offices, and a kitchenette.
Financial Assistance
All honors students will receive a scholarship that covers up to one
half their tuition depending on grade point average and scores
on standardized tests. Honors students are also eligible for other
types of financial aid.
Housing
Housing dedicated just for first-year Honors students is provided
to encourage group cohesion and to facilitate extra- and co-curricular
programming. Campus residence is required for Honors Program students.
Priority Registration
Honors students will be given priority registration privileges
starting the second semester of their freshman year.
Honors Graduation
Each Honors graduate is recognized at graduation, and Honors
Graduate is noted on the diploma.
