Opportunities
Volunteering is part of life
for many members of the Virginia Intermont community. Whether as
an individual or part of a group, students find that they often
receive more than they give in helping others. The following
volunteer opportunities are available to Intermont students.
Abuse Alternatives: A shelter and facility that works
with victims of domestic violence needs volunteers to assist in
a variety of ways. Contact Crystal Hutton at 423-652-9098.
Internships are also available.
Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Bristol: volunteers are needed
in both after-school and teen-center programs. Alumni of any B &
G club are eligible for grants toward education. Contact:

Bristol Virginia Housing Authority: Has volunteer and
job-shadowing and internship opportunities. Contact Diana Carter

Children’s Advocacy Center: Volunteers needed to create a
more “teen friendly” space for clients. Contact Kathy Roark at
276-645-5867.
Holly Help Spay and Neuter Program: Needs volunteers to
distribute materials, photograph animals, and build doghouses
(materials provided).
Margaret Mitchell Spay and Neuter Clinic: This non-profit
organization needs volunteers to support their work with
animals. Pre-vet internships possibly available. Contact:

Rhythm & Roots: Community music festival will need dozens
of volunteers in everything from security to being “runners” for
musicians on the weekend of September 15, 16, 17. Contact:

YWCA: The YW uses Intermont volunteers in a variety of
ways, especially with their Girls in Sports day. Contact Tammy
